As a team of dedicated and passionate language teachers, we truly live and breathe what we do. Our aim is to inspire pupils to become confident and enthusiastic linguists, developing their ability to listen, speak, read and write in French and Spanish.

We are strongly committed to making the study of a modern foreign language an enjoyable, challenging and rewarding experience for pupils of all abilities, enabling every learner to achieve their potential. We want our pupils to communicate confidently with others, express their own ideas and opinions, and develop the resilience to use another language independently.

Alongside developing linguistic knowledge, we aim to foster pupils’ curiosity about the wider world. Through their study of French and Spanish, pupils encounter the rich and diverse cultures, traditions and communities of the French-speaking and Spanish-speaking worlds, helping them to develop a broader understanding of life beyond their own experiences.

Our carefully planned and sequenced KS3 and KS4 curriculum is built around the three key pillars of language learning: phonics, vocabulary and grammar. From the beginning of their language-learning journey, pupils are encouraged to “speak like a linguist”, developing accurate pronunciation and the confidence to communicate spontaneously. Through regular retrieval and carefully sequenced learning, pupils build an increasingly wide range of vocabulary and grammatical structures which they can apply in new contexts.

Throughout their learning journey, pupils develop and are assessed across the four key language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing.

Learning a modern foreign language provides pupils with far more than the ability to communicate. It develops confidence, resilience, curiosity and cultural awareness, while opening doors to further study, travel and future career opportunities.

Ultimately, our ambition is for pupils to leave us as confident, curious and culturally aware young people who understand the value of languages and are equipped to communicate in an increasingly interconnected world.
