At Southlands High School, our PSHE curriculum is designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to thrive both now and in the future. Through a carefully sequenced programme of study, students develop the confidence, resilience and understanding required to make informed decisions, maintain positive relationships, safeguard their wellbeing and become responsible members of society.
The curriculum has been fully mapped against the statutory Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) guidance and ensures that all students receive high-quality, age-appropriate learning in line with national requirements. Key themes include mental and physical health, healthy relationships, online safety, personal safety, diversity and inclusion, careers and financial education, and preparation for life in modern Britain.
PSHE is delivered through timetabled lessons across all year groups, reflecting the importance we place on this subject as a core part of every student’s education. Lessons provide opportunities for discussion, reflection and the development of critical thinking skills, enabling students to apply their learning to real-life situations.
To ensure high standards and strong student progress, PSHE is fully assessed using Southlands High School’s assessment model. Assessment allows teachers to identify students’ understanding, celebrate achievement and provide targeted support where needed. This approach ensures that PSHE is valued as an integral part of the curriculum and that students are able to demonstrate their learning and personal development over time.
Our aim is to empower every student to lead a healthy, safe and successful life, both during their time at Southlands High School and beyond.
